SKAFTAFELL

The Skaftafell national park stands between two arms of the glacier, like fragile green jewel in the hands of a ice giant.

In the middle of Skaftafell is the Svartifoss water fall. 20 m high, it falls in a basalt org circus. Water crashes on black rocks, making a particuliar sound. A marked path walks over the glacier, which seems to overflow from the mountain, ready to swallow the plain.

Despite the 1996 eruption, you can find a gas station, a camping and a comfortable hostel. This hostel turns its back to the glacier, only 500 m behind.
