10 km east from Skogar, a track goes straight to Solheimarjokull glacier, which is another one’s arm : the Myrdalsjokull. This glacier is the first you can get so close after leaving Reykjavik.
The « parking » is located 300 m from the front but you have to find a way by yourself ! Ice is grey because of ashes, carried by the wind and stuck in. Don’t forget that Hekla is not very far…
